Featherclaw sat on her one of the fallen trees in the camp, he fur was bristing with irritation. A few days before she had gone out on a hunting patrol and when she came back Emberstar had brought back a known traitor and let him rejoin there clan. She wondered if any else felt the same way about Mudpelt as she did but a lot of cats seemed to support her decision. She sighed and sat up and started licking her fur, making it lie flat again.

Padding out of the medicine cat's den, Wolfpaw's yellow eyes scanned the camp with a sigh. He wanted to take a break from learning all those herbs; he head felt lke it was going to explode. Everything seemed normal and peaceful, except for one warrior. She was sitting off by herself, her fur bristling. Taking a deep breath, he decided to go see what was wrong, figuring in was the right thing to do. Wolfpaw crept over to Featherclaw slowly, keeping himself close to the ground. He had a frog in his jaws as a gift for her. Wolfpaw sat it down at her paws. "Hi Featherclaw," he meowed quietly, dipping his small black head to the older warrior. "I noticed you seemed upset. Is it because of," he winced, not wanting to upset her more, " Mudpelt being let back into Shadowclan?" Wolfpaw looked up at her with large yellow eyes, hoping he wasn't about to get his ears clawed. Featherclaw nodded to the apprentice as he came up, she wasn't very fond of him or most cats but atlest he understood. She sighed and jumped down landing beside him. "Thank you for the frog Wolfpaw, and yes, I cant believe she let that traitor back into the clan. Im sure you've heard what he's done, do you think its safe him being back here?" she asked while carefully pullng some of the skin away from the frog.

Wolfpaw was silent for a moment, thinking over his answer carefully. Finally, he sighed and looked at the ground, shuffling his paws with embarrassment. "I don't think," he started, "that there was any real proof he did anything." Wolfpaw did believe that, no matter what everyone else said and he was gong to stand by what he thought. [/sup]

Featherclaw turned quickly, not enough proof? What about the kit that lost its life that day? she though angrily to herself. "Then I suppose the grave where that kit is buried isn't evidence enough? What other evidence is needed, I was in the patrol that found the kits body and he was running away!" she hissed agitated that anyone would believe that traitor's story. She flicked her tail and waited for what the young cat would say next.

He winced at the thought of the dead kit, but steadied himself to look her in the eyes. When she hissed at him, he looked down at his small black paws and wrapped his tail tightly around himself. "But do we know he actually killed the kit?" Wolfpaw sighed, flicking his ears back, "he could have been looking for help..." He locked his gaze on the half eaten frog that laid beside her paws instead of Featherclaw's angry glare. [/sup]

Featherclaw sighed, she didn't understand why someone would believe that, but the apprentice wasn't alive then she couldn't be mad at him for not understanding. "Well he said he was chasing the rogue that did it, I think he just ran off into rogue territory so he could clean the blood from his claws." She said flicking her tail before lowering her head to take another bite from the frog.

Mudpelt walked into camp with three mice in his mouth, he saw featherclaw talking to an apprentice and he didn't meet her gaze. She hated him and had made that very clear the last few days, he sighed, no matter how much he knew that some of the cats wouldn't like him having someone openly show it like that made his stomach turn.
Once he reached the freshkill pile he sat down the three mice, lowering his head he picked one up a thrush for himself then made his way to the opposite side of the clearing from Featherclaw. Once he reached he sat down and slowly started eating, he still wasn't used to having a lot of cats around him or sharing meals with other cats, and besides the only cats he saw was Featherclaw and the medicine cat apprentice who she was probably telling how horrible Mudpelt.
Featherclaw's pelt crawled at the sight of the traitor walking into camp, she couldn't believe how stupid emberstar was being! Actually she could, that stupid she cat was never smart enough to lead a clan. She glanced at the apprenntice still waiting for a responce, she lowered her head to eat again.

Wolfpaw glanced back up at her, meeting her gaze for only a heartbeat before looking back down. "Would you not have done the same thing?" he suggested carefully, hoping he wouldn't tread too far. "Would you have let the kit's killer get away without a fight?" Wolfpaw glanced up as Mudpelt entered camp and, for one small second, he felt bad for the warrior for being so openly hated.

Featherclaw thought about it, it kind of made sense but that didn't make her believe it anymore. "I don't deny that I wouldn't, but they never found the rogue, if I would have been chasing it I wouldn't have stopped until I caught it, he came back with nothing. Would you have stopped?" she said with a glance at wolfpaw, it was true what she said, she would have tracked it until she found it and had revenge for the kits death.

Wolfpaw nodded slowly. He'd do the same thing... except... "If I lost the rogue's trail, I would have gone back," he answered truthfully. "I'd rather get the kit's body back to camp in one piece, before another hungry animal got to it, than chase around a cat who I wouldn't be able to find." Wolfpaw would like to get the poor kit's body back to it's mother before a hawk found it or something. If he got a good scent of the rogue, he was almost certian that he'd be able to track it after getting the kit's body back, as long as it didn't rain.

Featherclaw nodded as he spoke, wolfpaw was a wise young cat. "It was covered in his scent, he said something about trying to revive it before he went after the rogue, but it doesn't make sense, not to me atleast, why he would try to revive the kit even after it was dead, and then chase the rogue. You know wolfpaw, you are very wise for your age." she finished with a smile. She knew if she had kits, she would want them to be like wolfpaw, he was wise and very caring, and also not afraid to stand up for what he believed in.

"It's possible, I think," Wolfpaw said, though a bit uncertian. "I'd try, anyways; I would try everything to bring the kit back." Hearing Featherclaw's compliment, Wolfpaw's fur warmed from ear tips to tail tip. "Thank you, Featherclaw," he murmered, dipping his head respectfully, slightly embarrassed by her compliment. He knew he still had a lot to learn, and in situations like this he only trusted his gut feelings.

Featherclaw nodded with a smile, she was always sweeter the younger cats, they were so sweet and so inoccent, always trying their hardest to learn. It reminded her of the best times of her life, when she was a kit and an apprentice, also a young warrior, when her life was much more simple and every thing made sense. She missed that time so much she sighed, "Well I guess its just a matter of what you believe more." she finished with a nod and smile, she was much less stressed out then she was before she talked to wolfpaw, she felt good venting to someone. "So how has your day been?" she asked trying to change the subject.

"It's been like every other day since I became a medicine cat apprentice," Wolfpaw answered, keeping his bright yellow eyes on his paws. "I have to learn all the herbs to make sure I can help out when cats get sick or injured." He didn't want to complain about his role in Clan life to an older warrior who had been through so much more than he had, and probably more than he ever will be put through. Secretly, Wolfpaw wondered how he could learn all the herbs and combinations to keep his Clan healthy; it was so hard sometimes. At least he could always manage to clear his head.
